Mylène Farmer's Biography
Mylène Farmer, who’s real name is Mylène Gauthier, was born September 12th, 1961 in the Canadian city Pierrefonds (near Montreal) and was raised in Paris.Mylene is one of four children born to the Gauthier family. When she left school at the age of 17, she was unsure of what she wanted to do in the future. She only knew that she wanted to do something creative. Mylène decided to attend theatre instructions at a school in Paris. She read plays and was occupied with different dramatists and stage authors. However, Mylene wondered if she could actually learn how to become actress, performer or singer in this way.
It was in this moment of doubt that a chance encounter took place which changed her life: Mylène met Laurent Boutonnat, someone who wanted to taste success every bit as much as Mylène.
Since his youth, Laurent was always interested in cameras, wrote songs and dreamt of an art form melting akustic and visual elements. Mylène fit in his dreams perfectly. She was the best person to interpret his compositions and to realize his visual ideas.
In 1984 the first single 'Maman a tort' was released it entered the Top 50. The single 'Libertine' followed and in 1986 the first album 'Cendres de lune' was published. The first big success. In 1988 the second album 'Ainsi soit-je' was released and sold over 1.8 million copies. After the successful release of the second album, Mylene began an extensive tour consisting of 80 concerts. After which, Mylène disappeared for a short time.
In 1991 she returned with the single 'Désenchantée' and followed with a third album, 'L’autre', which sold over 2 million copies. In October 1994 Mylene tried acting in movies but 'Giorgino' was not successful. Mylène disappeared again for several months.
In October 1995 Mylène's fourth album was released. Two other albums followed and in 1999 Mylène started her 'Mylenium Tour'.
In the summer 2000, Mylène discovered the young and talented singer, Alizée. Mylène Farmer wrote the lyrics for the young singer and released her first single 'Moi...Lolita', which was a great success throughout Europe.
In November of 2001, Mylène's eighth album was released. A double “best-of” CD containing three new songs. In 2003 Mylene was nominated for the 'NRJ Music Awards 2003' and won it for the fourth time as the best Female French singer.
