Alizée: "My most beautiful birthday present: the Olympia!"

Alizée interviews are rare. Which makes them that much more precious. The young singer accepted to meet Stars Live for an exclusive interview, the day after her week of triumphant concerts at the Olympia. Completely relaxed, she didn't hide from any questions.

Hot confidances.

How did you experience this week of Parisian concerts?
A: I had a lot of butterflies the first night. I was really afraid. However much I rehearsed, knew my songs and movements onstage by heart, I was afraid of having a memory slip or forgetting a sequence. I was very well prepared, but I wasn't sure I was ready in my head. In the end, it went very well.

How was the contact with the spectators?
A: It was the first time that I met my public, that I was able to put a face on them. I was very astonished to see how many adults there were. I wasn't expecting to see so many adults in the arena! I was deeply happy with this first contact. Now that I've tasted such a pleasure, I can't wait to leave again on tour!

Onstage, you appear at the top of an immense shoe? Whose idea was that?
A: In the beginning, this shoe was a drawing made by Mylène Farmer. You can also see it on the cover of the album Mes courants électriques. It's a kind of wink at Alice in Wonderland. This shoe is also symbolic of my age, which is between adolescent and adult.

Onstage, you wear ultra short outfits...
A: Let's say that onstage I wear clothes that I absolutely wouldn't dare put on in my everyday life. Especially since I'm rather shy, reserved, and modest by nature.

Did your family make the Ajaccio-Paris trip to come applaud you?
A: Fortunately! Imagine that! My grandfather hadn't been to Paris in 25 years! At the Olympia, I introduced him to Mylène. He thanked her for taking care of me so well... As for my little 13-year-old brother, he came every night in my parents' company. He was really proud. He wasn't expecting to see such a show.

What would you say to your little brother if he told you he wanted to be a singer?
A: I would be delighted. I would protect him, I would help him, I would advise him. Everything that Mylène does for me. But I think he's much more attracted to tennis than singing!

Many artists from the Restos du Coeur group came to applaud you. Whose presence touched you the most?
A: Maxime Le Forestier's. I was very moved to see him afterward, backstage. He's the one who took me in when I got into the Enfoirés for the first time. He's someone very critical, who always says what's on his mind.

What was his reaction after your concert?
A: He came to see me and told me: "You didn't sing one note out of tune"...That was the most beautiful compliment that anyone could have said about me! I'm afraid I won't be able to participate in the Restos du Coeur this year because I'll be in the middle of my tour. But I'll do my utmost to come give them a little hello.

Why didn't we see you for so many months before the release of your second album?
A: I wasn't seen in France maybe, but I wasn't inactive for all that time. On the contrary, I did a lot of things. I did a huge amount of promotion abroad. I went to sing just about everywhere in Europe. I also went to Japan. They like French people a lot there. I also had lots of success there. That maybe comes from the fact that they find that I have a little bit of the "manga" style...

You didn't feel a little lost with all your travels?
A: It's true that all this travel is a lot for a girl my age. But I liked everything I did in the course of this period from the beginning to the end. I'm even leaving again for Asia at the end of September.

You turned 19 on August 21st. What was your most beautiful birthday present?
A: That was obviously the Olympia!

For someone who is very attached to Ajaccio, how are you living with this forced distance?
A: It's true that I miss it. I had to move to Paris two months before the Olympia for the rehearsals. With the tour, I won't set foot in Corsica again before the end of November. For the moment, fortunately, it's the Corsicans who making the trip and coming to me.

Which artists do you appreciate at the moment?
A: I really like the clothing and musical style of Avril Lavigne. I listen to her songs. As for her, at least she doesn't copy anyone. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that I'm a fan. As for others, my current preferences are towards Kyo, Indochine, Madonna, Robbie Williams, and Johnny Hallyday.

What is your favorite song on your second album?
A: It's A contre-courant. I think it's the most adult. And also it perfectly resembles me. I like doing the opposite of what people tell me to do. I hardly like receiving orders. And when necessary, I know how to take initiative.

If you had to remake a song by Mylène Farmer, which one would it be?
A: Without any hesitation, I would redo Désenchantée. It would be that one and none other.

If you had to do a duet, which artist would you like to sing with?
A: My ideal duet would be with Madonna.

Who are your favorite comedians?
A: I don't really have any. Those who make me laugh the most are Gad Elmaleh and Pierre Palmade.

Have you prepared for your driver's license?
A: I haven't had the time to take it. Maybe after the tour...

Do you watch the reality TV shows like Popstars or Star Academy?
A: Before and during the Olympia, I didn't watch TV for three weeks. Nor did I read the newspapers. I was totally submerged in work. I therefore didn't follow the second seasons of these shows. I was even unaware that the French football championship had started. I don't even know the first results of AC Ajaccio, that's how to describe my isolation!

Have you received offers for movies?
A: I've had a few. But I haven't really fallen in love with any of the roles that were presented to me. I don't particularly feel in a hurry to do movies. I first want to learn my profession well, to well situate myself in singing. Having said that, if Spielberg came calling, I wouldn't say no...

When will we see you in a Parisian arena?
A: January 17th, at the Zénith...

[More of Alizée]:
It no doubt hasn't escaped you... The autumn-winter fashion is punk. And the little Alizée, still just as smart, has done her lesson on fashion. During our interview, she was wearing a t-shirt with red and black stripes on which hung a flashy tie, itself also red and black and displaying the word "Punk" in pink letters. Her jeans, which stop below the knee, enhancing a pair of socks with yellow and red stripes and red tennis shoes. On the right wrist, the singer was wearing a large cloth bracelet the same color as her socks. A style clearly inspired by her darling of the moment: Avril Lavigne. In any case, the lolita is still just as to die for as a shocking punkette!
